Denis Joubert Power Series

With less than a week to go before the next Power Series, this one is rather a special one.

Denis Joubert played a critical role in the establishment of the Western Province Motor Club in 1965 and the Killarney International Raceway in 1960. He was the inaugural secretary of the Western Province Motor Club, serving from 1965 to 1970. Subsequently, he was elected Chairman, a position he maintained for 36 years.  In recognition of his 90th birthday on June 18, this event will be commemorated as the Denis Joubert Race Day, as a tribute to a remarkable racing driver and a genuine statesman of motorsport.

LAUDE Classic cars will once again be there, with a healthy field of competitors wanting to be a part of this special event while maximising their chances within the classic car championship. Up front, the competition should be close and will be hard fought between Franco Donadio (Escort MK1), Dave Kopke (Mazda R100) and Michaeal Hitchcock (Mustang V8).   Class B is where the real fight for the current championship is between a ‘hard charging’ Trevor Momberg (Capri V6) and a ‘never say die’ Ferdi Hitchcock (Mustang V8).

Class C is never short of a great dice with Deon Valentine (Mini) always up for a challenge with the much bigger cars in the like of father a son duo, Layne and Trevor Hutchings with Deon Conradie never out of contention.

In class D keep an eye out for Herman de Kock (Escort Mk1) and Dave Rowley (VW Beetle) who may just show a turn of pace.

A full field is once again expected, with 32 competitors in the line-up for a great day of racing.
