October 19 will again provide some excellent historic racing at the Killarney International Raceway. These classic and historic car competitors have consistently produced top-quality racing this season, producing consistent big fields, which makes for a better spectator experience and a little bit harder competition.
If all goes well this coming weekend, some competitors may already have one hand on the championship while others are still fighting for the runner-up and final podium spots. This is by no means over just yet, as there are still points on the table for the taking.
Currently, there are 29 entries for the upcoming event on 19 October, with a few more still likely to enter should all their gremlins get sorted in time.
Class A will see Franco Donadio (Chev Can-AM) taking on fellow competitors Glen Uytenbogaardt (Granada Perana) and ‘never say die’, Michael Hitchcock (Ford Mustang).
Class B is once again the largest class on the day, with a few to prove a point. Bryon Bedien (Datsun SSS) has been hard at work fine-tuning their engine and hope to vastly improve its performance and lap time in class B. Not to be outdone, Ferdi Mouton (Ford Mustang) is ever determined to regain some valuable lost points and hopes to take the top spot in his class while fending off Trevor Momberg (V6 Ford Capri). Then there are the dark horses in the likes of Dave Alhadeff (BMW 325), Brian Evans in his very quick (Mk1 Ford Escort), as well as a very determined Jarryd Evans (Ford Capri), who could be the upsets of the day.
Class C has 5 entries to date and should be a hard, close race between both Trevor Hutchings (Mk1 Scirocco) and son Layne Hutchings (Mk1 Scirocco).
Class D with 6 entries will be hard fought between Theo Claasen (Nissan Skyline) and Herman de Kock (Mk1 Escort).
Class E will see a competent Calvin Beekman in the very well-prepared (Morris Minor), keeping the back of the field honest.
Class X has 7 entries for those new driver/car combinations that have yet to set an official time so as to be classed. Look out for Andre Fourie (VW Jetta), Jan Koekemoer (Mazda RX7), Robert Senekal (Mk1 Ford Escort 2L), and Germain Bedien (Datsun GX), who has spent his efforts improving both reliability and lap time.
Gates open at 06h30, with the first races off at 08h00. LAUDE Classic Cars will qualify at 09h55, with their first race at 12h55. Come down, grab your favourite spectating spot and get ready for a fantastic day of entertainment.
